Clairmont Crest Community Celebrates “Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself” Week

February 8-15 was named “Love Thy Neighbor as Thyself” week for 2004 at Clairmont Crest Retirement Community. During this special week, greetings for each other were “Hi neighbor” or a friendly wave if someone was down the hall or out in the gardens.

Celebrations were held throughout the week to encourage fellowship and to enjoy the pleasure of socialization. On Sunday, February 8, a large group treated themselves to a lovely Valentine gift - a Traditional English Tea Party at Holy Trinity Church.

Pictures of this elegant affair on our Community News cover page include these:

Table One: Zelda Ridley, Assistant Administrator and Director of Activities; Vida McAfee; Louise Wright; Marion Lynch; India Powell; and Onell Sheats

Table Two: Laura Willis, President, CEO of Baptist Retirement Communities; and friends

Table Three: Josephine Doles; Lillian Anderson; Gwendolyn Boone; Corle Reed; Edith Henderson; Ouida Crawley; Betty Henson; and Helen Collum

Table Four: Elizabeth Workman; Alma Ramey; Norma Rogers; Charlotte Gaines; Carole Gregory; and Evelyn Sprayberry

Table Five: Marie Nash; Irene Fahey; Margaret Griggs; Ruth Matthews; Helen Bunting; and Barbara Manos

True to English tradition, the guests enjoyed canapés, crumpets, petit fours, and of course steaming tea. Excellent service enhanced the feeling of elegance for those attending.

Tuesday evening, the Bible study class hosted a Valentine party and invited everyone to come study with Rev. Salzman. Musical accompaniment was provided by Rachel Pitts. After a stimulating Bible study refreshments were shared.

On Thursday evening, Dr. Perry Ginn and the evening prayer service group sponsored another Valentine gathering for residents and friends. Marion Fowler played the piano for the song service. Clairmont Crest residents worshiped at the local Clairmont Hills Baptist Church to end the celebrated week of love. Many tried new events and experienced sweet fellowship during this special emphasis week.
