Getting in Shape for Summer

It is near summertime. The flowers are blooming, warm breezes are blowing and at Baptist Inn and Clairmont Crest the pools have been refreshed and opened. Soon residents of these two communities will have opportunity to take advantage of water aerobic classes. This relaxing form of exercise proves to be most beneficial for older persons.

As the bones and joints begin reacting to aging processes, getting stiff and sometimes painful a low impact exercise helps to keep mobility up and pain down. The perfect medium for such exercise is found in water. Without resistance and with buoyancy joints that would scream at jumping jacks and jogging slide smoothly through a watery surrounding. Participants of water aerobics reap all the benefits of cardiac enhancement as well as joint and skeletal mobility. Taken three times a week at twenty minute sessions water exercises are also a good way to burn a few calories and encourage weight loss.

Whether for weight control, cardiac fitness, joint mobility or just plain fun the residents who participate in the classes have a good time. The lovely in ground pools make a pleasant environment for these and other summer leisure activities.
