August 2004Lunch and Learn at Clairmont CrestThroughout the year, Clairmont Crest Director of Activities, Zelda Ridley, plans stimulating programs aimed at life enrichment. Residents are invited to bring their lunch and enjoy fellowship while they listen to experts share their knowledge about a subject of mutual interest to senior adults. Speakers vary, presenting a broad array of subjects. Two recent “Lunch and Learn” events included these guest speakers: — Mrs. Clemmie Hatchett, a very vivacious retired teacher who has been featured all around the Atlanta area and been a Television guest with her presentation—“Simple Ways to Arrange Flowers”. She shared some tips on how to keep one’s home looking and smelling fresh all the time using items that are probably already in possession. To top off her session, Mrs. Betty Sullivan made a presentation of an artificial flower arrangement that would be appropriate for any room in the home. — Dr. Lois Ricci of Emory University’s Center for Health and Aging spoke to the Lunch and Learn group on “Memory: Keeping It.” Dr. Ricci talked about memory and normal aging, a research test used to determine memory loss, and keeping memory through diet/nutrition, medications, and activity/exercise which includes physical and brain exercise. Following the question and answer time Dr. Ricci invited people to participate in educational programs and activities related to health and aging, as well as research projects on aging at Emory.
