April 2003

Fashion Festival

Each year our Baptist Inn Retirement Community holds an old fashion revival, complete with preaching, fellowship and lots of singing. This year’s event was held during the month of April. Dr. Dean Haun, pastor of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Georgia conducted the services. Dr. Haun has a warm heart for the elderly, and preaches especially to them from that compassionate heart. His plain presentation of the old, old story touches hearts in a mighty way for Jesus.

Music was presented and singing led by Minister of Music for Jonesboro First Baptist Church, Rev. Jim Van Matre. The walls resounded with the familiar lyrics when the voices of residents and staff joined in song. This year as in times past chairs had to be brought in to add to those already in the chapel. Extended room had to be made by opening doors to allow for the more than 100 attendees each day. The crowd exceeded 110 by the third day.

Many decisions were made. Lives were impacted and changed, but most importantly six new names were added to The Book of Life! Every Baptist Inn revival so far has resulted in decisions for salvation, disproving the old myth that an elderly person is too late in life to change. Scripture teaches us that as long as there is consciousness and life, there is hope for new life. We thank God for Dr. Haun and his devoted staff from Jonesboro First Baptist who brought the message of eternal life to our precious residents.
